The Foundation Standard is the hallmark of quality for general practices across Aotearoa and qualifies practices for government funding. The Standard combines quality control with quality improvement to help practices identify and address gaps in their systems and processes.
The Foundation Standard is a 3 yearly programme and includes elements of diversity, equity, and cultural safety, aligning practices to New Zealand's Health Strategy of achieving health equity and improving health outcomes for all New Zealanders.
The Foundation: All our primary care services maintain certification in the Foundation Standard. This is the mandatory regulatory benchmark for general practices in Aotearoa New Zealand.
Key Indicators: This certification ensures we meet strict safety and clinical criteria including:
Patient Privacy: Secure management of your health records and information.
Clinical Excellence: Safe medicine management and infection control protocols.
Safety Standards: Proper maintenance of all medical equipment and emergency procedures.
"To maintain our certification, our practices must provide rigorous evidence across 15+ quality assurance indicators. These are independently audited to ensure excellence in Patient Rights, Clinical Care, Medicines Management, and the safety of our Medical Equipment and Environment."
